# Institutional-grade structural awareness without the institutional price

The same depth of market microstructure data that Bloomberg charges $24,000/year for, purpose-built for Bitcoin, updated every tick, with AI regime analysis. $19/month. No contract. No enterprise sales call.

## The professional Bitcoin data problem

### What institutional tools offer

Bloomberg Terminal and Refinitiv Eikon give you deep market microstructure data (order book analytics, real-time depth, flow analysis) for equities, FX, and fixed income. They're built for institutional traders who need structural awareness to make decisions.

But for Bitcoin, their coverage is shallow. Basic price feeds, limited order book depth, no per-tick computed metrics, no crypto-native structural awareness. You're paying $2,000/month for a terminal that treats Bitcoin as an afterthought.

### What crypto tools offer

CoinGecko, CoinMarketCap, and TradingView give you price, volume, and candle charts across thousands of tokens. Wide coverage, but shallow depth. No per-tick microstructure metrics. No real-time depth imbalance. No computed order flow analytics. No AI regime classification.

For a professional trader or fund manager who needs the quantitative depth of a Bloomberg-class terminal applied to Bitcoin, neither category works. You get breadth without depth, or depth without crypto coverage.

## What professional Bitcoin analysis requires

Professional traders and fund managers don't need more charts. They need structural awareness: quantitative measurements of market state at the resolution it operates, the same category of intelligence that drives decision-making on institutional equity and FX desks.

### Per-tick microstructure metrics

Depth imbalance, order book skew, long/short pressure, volume-price divergence, computed continuously, not sampled. These are the measurements that institutional desks use to gauge market state, applied to Bitcoin's order book on every tick.

### Real-time volatility regime

Standard deviation, expected move, and Hurst exponent, updated per tick. Institutional risk management starts with knowing the volatility regime. Is the market trending (Hurst > 0.5) or mean-reverting (Hurst < 0.5)? Is volatility expanding or compressing? These measurements inform position sizing, stop placement, and strategy selection.

### Order flow analysis

Long/short pressure measures the ratio of buy-initiated to sell-initiated volume. Volume speed tracks flow rate against baseline. Together, they tell you who is the aggressor and how much conviction is behind the current move, the fundamental question in order flow analysis.

### Regime classification

An AI analyst (Yuki, GPT-5.2) reads all 25+ quantitative metrics hourly and classifies the current market regime. Trending, ranging, volatile, transitional, with the constituent metrics that drove the classification. This is the synthesis layer: turning 25 numbers into a regime label that informs strategy selection.

### Absorption and divergence detection

Volume-price divergence identifies when large passive orders are absorbing active flow without moving price, the signature of institutional accumulation or distribution. This signal is invisible on candle charts. It requires per-tick volume and price measurement to detect.

### Deterministic computation

Every metric is transparent, deterministic math. No black boxes. No proprietary scoring algorithms with hidden weights. Slope is a slope. Standard deviation is a standard deviation. The computations are auditable. Professional traders need to trust their data. Trust comes from transparency.

## The quantitative metric set

These metrics update on every tick. All computations are deterministic: the same inputs always produce the same outputs.

### Price dynamics
| | |
| --- | --- |
| Slope | Rate of price change ($/time) |
| Acceleration | Rate of change of slope |
| Trend direction | Derived from slope dynamics |
| Intraday trend | Session-level trend context |

### Volatility
| | |
| --- | --- |
| Standard deviation | Rolling volatility |
| Expected move (1h) | Projected range from current vol |
| Hurst exponent | Trending (>0.5) vs. mean-reverting (<0.5) |

### Volume and flow
| | |
| --- | --- |
| Volume speed | Flow rate vs. rolling baseline |
| Long/short pressure | Buy vs. sell aggression ratio |
| Volume-price divergence | Absorption / distribution detection |

### Order book
| | |
| --- | --- |
| Depth imbalance | Bid vs. ask depth ratio near price |
| Order book skew | Multi-level depth asymmetry |

Additional metrics include trend stability, regime transition indicators, and session-level aggregates. Custom studies allow defining additional computed metrics on top of the base set.

## How professional traders use semn.ai

### Risk gating

Use volatility regime and Hurst exponent to gate trading activity. When standard deviation spikes above the 90th percentile and Hurst drops below 0.4, the market is chaotic and mean-reverting, conditions where most directional strategies lose money. The terminal surfaces this regime state in real time so you can reduce exposure before the P&L tells you to.

### Position sizing

Scale position size to regime confidence. When the market is in a stable trending regime (positive slope, positive acceleration, confirming volume speed, Hurst above 0.6), increase size. When regime signals are mixed or transitional, reduce. The quantitative metrics give you the inputs for systematic sizing rules, not guesswork.

### Entry timing

Use microstructure signals to time entries within a broader thesis. If your analysis says "long Bitcoin," the terminal tells you _when_ the microstructure supports entering: depth imbalance shifting bid-heavy, volume-price divergence showing absorption, long/short pressure turning buy-dominated. Enter when the microstructure confirms, not when the candle closes.

### Exit quality

Detect trend exhaustion before lagging indicators confirm it. Acceleration turning negative while slope is still positive means momentum is fading, the early warning of a reversal. Volume speed declining during a move means conviction is draining. These metrics give you 1-3 minutes of lead time over a MACD crossover or RSI reversal. On a leveraged position, that lead time is measurable P&L.

### Regime-based strategy selection

Different market regimes require different strategies. Trending regimes favor momentum. Ranging regimes favor mean-reversion. Volatile regimes favor reduced exposure. The terminal's per-tick metrics and hourly AI classification tell you which regime you're in, so you can run the right strategy for the current conditions.

### Passive monitoring

Sonic encoding lets you monitor Bitcoin's microstructure by ear while managing other positions, taking calls, or reading research. When the market's rhythm changes (volume spikes, volatility shifts, directional pressure concentrates) you hear it immediately. No screen required. This solves the 24/7 monitoring problem for professional traders who can't watch one instrument continuously.

## Cost of professional Bitcoin data

| Solution | Annual cost | Bitcoin microstructure depth | Coverage |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Bloomberg Terminal | $24,000 | Minimal: basic price + book | All asset classes |
| Refinitiv Eikon | $22,000 | Minimal: basic price + book | All asset classes |
| Kaiko (institutional) | $12,000+ | Raw data (you compute metrics) | Multi-exchange, multi-asset |
| Amberdata | $10,000+ | DeFi + some order book | Broad crypto |
| TradingView Pro+ | $720 | None (candle charts only) | All markets |
| semn.ai | $228 | 25+ computed metrics per tick | Bitcoin (XBTUSD) |

The tradeoff is explicit: semn.ai is deep on one instrument. Bloomberg is shallow across everything. Kaiko gives you raw data you have to process. semn.ai gives you structural awareness: computed metrics and regime context are the product, not the raw feed. For a Bitcoin-focused fund or professional trader, $228/year for deeper structural intelligence than any of the above provide on Bitcoin specifically is asymmetric value.

### Scope and limitations

Transparency about what semn.ai does and doesn't do is especially important for professional users making tool decisions.

#### Bitcoin only

XBTUSD. No altcoins, no tokens, no ETFs. The analytics engine is purpose-built for Bitcoin's microstructure. If you need multi-asset coverage, Bloomberg or Kaiko serves that need. semn.ai serves the deep-single-instrument need.

#### Single instrument focus

Not multi-exchange aggregation. The terminal provides per-tick analytics on one instrument with high depth, not surface-level data across many venues. Cross-exchange arbitrage and aggregated book analysis are not in scope.

#### Analytics, not execution

No order routing. No trade execution. No brokerage. semn.ai is a pure analytics terminal. Execute on your exchange or through your prime broker.

#### No historical data export (yet)

The terminal is a live structural awareness environment. Historical data access and backtesting capabilities are on the roadmap but not available today.
